Today I wanted to continue with the thoughts I shared yesterday about Psalms 84: 10-12
A single day in your courts
is better than a thousand anywhere else!
I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God
than live the good life in the homes of the wicked. For the LORD God is our sun and our shield.
He gives us grace and glory.
The LORD will withhold no good thing
from those who do what is right. O LORD of Heaven’s Armies,
what joy for those who trust in you.
How do you have that Day in His Courts? What does that look like?
I am not an expert on this subject because if we could just be real for just a moment… I sometimes flunk at this. I get so distracted and sidetracked in life so many days. I sometimes I feel as though I have visited in those other courts.
There are some habits that I have learned recently that have really impacted how I do life with God…daily!
Just like it states in the beginning of this scripture – a single day…that is how I begin. I don’t strive for what Friday will look like when I haven’t gotten through Monday. Now, don’t get me wrong, I am organized in planning things out the wazoo… but God has taught me a valuable lesson before about getting too ahead of yourself. He is very serious about being the ONE in charge.
Colossians 3 :17 {the Message} “Let every detail in your lives-words, actions, whatever-be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.”
I believe every detail of our lives can be done as if we are doing it for God. We represent Jesus to all those around us…or we don’t. Have you ever really thought about that?
Do we run our businesses reflecting Jesus?
When someone visits our home, do they see Jesus?
{Here is a good one..} Do our reactions reflect Jesus?
There are 3 Habits that I have recently been trying to implement in walking with Jesus every day. Maybe they might encourage you.
#1 ~ Constant Communication with God
1 Thessalonians 5:17 “Never stop Praying.”.
You have to know about Him before you know Him… In order to know about Him… you have to know His Word.
In other words…READ THE BIBLE!
There are many ways to get to the Word constantly through out your day.
A. Read the Bible – {actual paper-bound-kind – I still can’t get away from this method no matter how technical I am!}
B. Download the App version from You Version You can view many versions at one time. You can even play it through audio. {I often do this in the car.}
C. You can print out 3X5 index cards and place scripture on them all over your house. Mine is covered in them.
D. Download podcasts of preachers online through your computer or phone. If I am cooking or cleaning – one is usually on.
E. Have Christian Radio stations (even Pandora Radio) going all throughout your day.
Did you know that Satan reads God’s Word. He knows it. Remember the 40 days that Jesus spent in the wilderness? {Matthew 4.} Satan quoted scripture to Jesus to even try to get Him off track. He will do it to us, but twist it around…you need to know the Word!
The difference between Satan and a believer is one reads the Word of God and the other reads it…and obeys it.
#2 ~ Get to know Him by His Word and when He tells you to something…you obey him…immediately.
You will begin to hear the voice of God when you KNOW Him. Then when He tells you something…learn instant obedience.
I teach my children the story of Jonah all the time and how Jonah had to learn the hard way about immediately obedience. {You can read Jonah’s story in Jonah 1}. I personally don’t want to learn through the belly of a fish. You say, “Really?”
Yes, I learned while parenting my girls a little saying that we use at least a dozen times during our day.
“You obey…you get blessings! You disobey…you get consequences!”
When you read your Bible you will understand…God is serious about obedience to His Word!
The last tip is #3~ Constantly desiring His Presence.
I need to have a constant appetite for God and His Food (Word)
Psalm 119:103-104 says, “How sweet your words taste to me;
they are sweeter than honey. Your commandments give me understanding;
no wonder I hate every false way of life.”
What are you eating on during your day? Listening to? Watching? Conversing with?
I have found that when I do life with and unending awareness of Jesus – then life…just…goes…better.
Can I pray for you?
Heavenly Father, I praise you because you have directed the path of each reader today to visit here and read my simple mindedness of how to follow YOU. I pray that you will redeem all that I have written about and use it for your Glory. That you will be supernatural revelation to each reader to feel your unending presence and have a hunger placed in them for the things of God. Those out of the box…walking…talking with you each day! I pray for your protection over them as they will begin to step out and try to hear you more, learn of you more and walk with you more that the enemy will want to bring some snag’s in our lives, but if we persevere in walking daily with you that you will bless our efforts tenfold!~
In Jesus Name~ Amen.
Here is a song that while writing this piece this week kept flooding my mind and I wanted to share it with you. It is by Matt Hammitt called “All of Me.” Click HERE to view it!
I would love to have you sign up to receive updates to you email or join through RSS feed! You can see those boxes on the side where you can do that! Thanks for letting me share today what has been on my heart! I pray you are blessed.
Amy, I just wanted to tell you how much I look forward to reading the insights that the Lord is giving you. You are encouraging us all…from young mothers to grandmothers…to draw closer, focus on Jesus, and LISTEN to what He is saying to us!
Thank you so much Mrs. Gaile! Your words are a blessing to my ear and such an encouragement to my heart! God is doing some mighty things around me and I just wish my fingers could type as fast as He sometimes wants to show me! 🙂
