Homeschooling has changed my perspective on our words that we use. We are learning how to use our words all. day. long. We are copying words, reading words, arranging words, speaking words, analyzing words, breaking down words, writing words, and using our words during every part of our day!
Right now, the season in our home is focused on these words. How much power there is in our words. How much God wants to use our words to impact others in a positive sort of way rather than tearing down and hurting others through our words.
We all have been hurt with words. Sometimes seeming to the other person as casual joking, but in reality the wounds go deep. Very deep.
{*Breathe*…This mama I am, wants to have some type of colombo moves pop out when this happens to my children.}
However, I will have to admit that we have tried to use these experiences to illustrate to my children that this is not how God intended on us using our words. Instead of going to a place of anger and revenge, we need to realign ourselves in evaluating how we use our words. Our words are suppose to glorify God, lift Him up and even encourage others that are made in His Image. We have a choice as to whether or not we receive these words of shame, or hurt.
Proverbs 16:24 “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”
Psalm 12:6 “And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.”
Psalm 19:14 ” May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, My Rock and my Redeemer.”
{If you go to Biblegateway.com and search “words”, the list is endless. Just trying to pick three was next to impossible.}
In our home, we have a new goal this year, it is to read more. You would think this was non-negotable since we homeschool; however, my kids are surrounded by culture just as much as anyone else’s in that we have technology…hence, a mom who writes on a blog.
This week I had some treasured time to myself. It wasn’t long but God was very intentional in telling me that it was to be spent with Him. So I put on this song, and listened to the words. I listened and received them well. I sat and worshiped the Great and Mighty God that we serve!
Have you done that lately? Have you just sat and read His Word or listened to His Word? There is such healing and redemption in letting it soak in.
I want to invite you to do that now. I am posting this song that God used to minister to me. The entire video is 12 minutes long, but don’t let that scare you. Half way through you will be richly blessed by a spoken word poem that you don’t want to miss. In fact, the words are so powerful I want you to read them first.
“The Word”
A Spoken Word written & performed by Isaac Wimberley
If there are words for Him, Then, I don’t have them.
You see my brain has not yet reached the point
Where it could form a thought that could
Adequately describe the greatness of my God
And my lungs – have not yet developed the ability to
Release a breath with enough agility to
Breathe out the greatness of His love
And my voice – You see my voice is so inhibited
Restrained by human limits,
That it’s hard to even send the praise up
You see – if there are words for Him, Then, I don’t have them
My God
His Grace is remarkable, Mercies are innumerable,
Strength is impenetrable
He is honourable, accountable, favourable
He’s UNSEARCHABLE, yet knowable
INDEFINABLE, yet approachable
INDESCRIBABLE, yet personal
He is beyond comprehension, Further than imagination
Constant through generations, King of every nation
But if there are words for Him, then, I don’t have them
You see my words are few
And in trying to capture the one true God
Using my vocabulary would never do
But I use words as an expression
An expression of worship – to A SAVIOR
A Savior who is both worthy and deserving of my praise
So I use words (SELAH)
My heart EXTOLS the Lord, blesses His name forever
He has won my heart, captured my mind
And has – bound them both together
He has DEFEATED me in my rebellion
CONQUERED me in my sin
He has WELCOMED me into His presence
Completely invited me in
He has made Himself the object of my sight
Flooding me with mercies in the morning
Drowning me with grace in the night
But if there are words for Him, Then, I don’t have them.
But what I DO HAVE is: GOOD NEWS
For my God knew that man-made words – would never do
The words are just tools – that we use to point to the Truth
So He sent His Son Jesus Christ as – THE Word
LIVING PROOF
He is the image of the invisible God
The FIRST BORN of all Creation
For by Him all things were created
Giving nothingness – FORMATION
And by His Word He sustains in the POWER of His name
For He is before all things – And over all things He reigns
HOLY is His name
So PRAISE HIM for His life (SELAH)
The way he persevered in strife
The humble Son of God becoming the – PERFECT SACRIFICE
PRAISE HIM for His death (SELAH)
That He willingly stood in our place,
That He lovingly endured the grave
That He BATTLED our Enemy
And on the THIRD DAY ROSE in victory (SELAH)
He is everything that was promised
Praise Him as the Risen King, Lift your voice and sing
For one day He will return for us
And we will finally be – united with our Savior for eternity
ETERNITY (SELAH)
So it’s not just words that I proclaim
For my words point to The Word
And The Word has a name:
HOPE has a name!
JOY has a name!
PEACE has a name!
LOVE has a name!
And that name is JESUS CHRIST!
PRAISE.
HIS NAME.
FOREVER!
Our words matter to Jesus because He was THE WORD.
This couldn’t have come at a better time to remind me of my choice in words with my own children and them with each other. I read this post with them. Thanks for posting and taking time out of your day! Miss seeing you!
Thank you for your sharing of testimony pointing me upward. I am not really computer literate but was able to listen to Kari’s song and the poem you included. Bless you, your husband and daughters.
