Is Craving Peanut Butter Balls Godly?

Today I am wanting to give you a quick peek into Lysa’s book “Made to Crave“.

Let me just confess to you friends, this is a struggle of watching what you eat, I think Satan himself uses it to hit me hard! Below and above the belt! I love sweets! This is my down fall!

There has been some peanut butter balls that have been screaming my name this last week! They scream everywhere – from the canister from which they reside, and also from my hips as I try to fit into my favorite jeans! It is not a pretty sight. I am sure many of you have never faced this scenario! Really!?

I am needing to realize that I need to retrain my mind to like other things that won’t be so hard on a girl’s waistline! No that doesn’t mean carrot sticks and rice cakes all the time! (I do have some carrots growing in the garden!) I believe it can be a journey that does take some organizational skills to plan out those meals and snacks.

I need to understand that the actual craving God put there was not necessarily for those Peanut butter balls or M&M’s but instead for God’s Word!

I read an interesting section in Lysa’s book this morning that in Philippians 3:18-19 is says,
“For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things.”

Their God is their stomach! Ouch! That hit me square in the gut!~

I do believe what Paul is trying to say is that food can sometimes become so consuming that often times we find ourselves ruled by it. As Lysa says, ” If we find that certain foods are impossible to walk away from – we can’t or won’t deny ourselves an unhealthy choice in order to make a healthier choice – then this is a clue we are being ruled by this food on some level.”

Click HERE to check out the introductory chapter of her book. I hope I have tempted you enough to at least check out this chapter. I think you will be pleasantly surprised that it is freeing when we embrace all that God has for us – even when it includes walking away from Peanut butter balls! Remember this isn’t a weight loss book – it is a spiritual journey to seeing where God wants to get rid of the things that hinder us from walking with him closer!

Happy New Year!

  1. Such a good post Amy. It’s funny you mention peanut butter balls. I got two boxes of homemade peanut butter balls this Christmas and immediately shipped them on to my sister in Greenville.

Out of sight… out of mind… almost. Smiles.

Can’t wait to see you soon.
