Resurrection Power

Happy Easter to all of you!

I know many of you will not get this post till Monday and Easter seems like a memory of Easter dresses, bunnies, church gatherings, eggs, grandmother’s casserole, and the constant sticking of that easter grass on your feet. {Ugh! I hate that!}

Even though all of those things make the memory special – there is something much bigger and many of us know it.

Easter is certainly a day where many Christians all over the world celebrate the awesome miracle of Christ’ resurrection from the dead. Easter. Because of what Jesus did for us, undeserving by us, we are able to live in victory in our lives. We are able to experience His resurrection power in all areas in our lives.

One of my daughters asked recently, “What does resurrection power mean?”

I didn’t jump in immediately to give her a quick response. I wanted my answer to linger in her heart for many moments.

I told her that it is all the awesome power that Jesus had when God raised him from the dead…and now we have that same power available to us.

This is serious. I believe in all that resurrection power too…all because of what Christ said in the scriptures.

Exodus 34:10 “The Lord replied, “Listen, I am making a covenant with you in the presence of all your people. I will perform miracles that have never been performed anywhere in all the earth or in any nation. And all the people around you will see the power of the Lord—the awesome power I will display for you.”

Psalm 59:16 “But as for me, I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety when I am in distress.”

Luke 10:19 “Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.”

The power to ask for healing.
The power to ask for miracles.
The power to forgive the most horrible things.
The power to walk in victory when for so long we have felt so defeated.

We sing a song EVERY night…literally. She can’t go to sleep without hearing it. It brings her peace and comfort by hearing these words.

Jesus be Jesus in Me.
No longer me, but Thee.
Resurrection Power, fill me this hour,
Jesus be Jesus in Me.

We are standing on Holy Ground
And I know that there are angels all around,
Let us praise Jesus now,
We are standing on Holy Ground.

Now, if you have ever heard the second verse you know that we stole it from a completely different song. It just goes together for us. Therefore, you have our song.

I don’t think explaining resurrection power gets any simpler than that. I want my daughters to know this resurrection power and how freedom can belong to them but only through what Jesus did on the Cross so long ago. It still is relevant.

This weekend we hit another milestone for our family.

We traveled to Virginia to see Kevin’s parents and brother. This was huge. {You’ll have to read previous posts to know that we have been walking through a miracle and healing of our own through my husband’s cancer.} Not only because traveling in a car that long still brings discomfort, but it was also a time that we could pour some love back on all those people who prayed for us and were able to witness our healing that Kevin received from God. The gifts of love that have been poured out on us from people we don’t even know, just blows us away! It was a precious weekend.

This Easter Sunday morning, as I quietly sat early while everyone was still asleep, I heard a song that put a big smile on my face. It’s a video that Ann Voscamp also posted on her blog this morning, but I figured it was good enough to post again here.

While you watch this video, pay attention to the people’s faces.

I am sure somewhere in that crowd are people who have baggage, sorrows, hurts, anger, and places where they have been burned by others. They are in some need of that same Resurrection Power that I spoke of earlier.

BUT…

They see the reality of the healing power of the resurrection of Jesus!

They have freedom written all over their faces.

This video made me tear up because I know this church. They are in Houston, Texas and actually their Hope House ministry is what ministered to us in such a special way while we were there for Kevin’s last surgery. Second Baptist Church of Houston has several apartments that they make available to people who are having long visits in the city while going through treatments at the many medical facilities in Houston. It is by the grace of God that we heard about them and this powerful ministry.

Today, they ministered to me again.

I am sure that many of the people in that video have experienced healing on so many levels. Their smiles told me so.

So can you.

Here watch….and don’t lay your head down tonight without thanking Jesus that HE LIVES!
